Importance of proper Jewelry Care

Caring for your jewelry is very commonly ignored and can be one of the most costly mistakes. It's a common misconception that because diamonds, specifically, are so hard, that they will not damage. Although it's difficult, but not impossible, trust me... settings are very susceptible to damage. And if a setting is damaged, you are at extreme risk of losing diamonds. The MOST important step is to have your fine jewelry checked by a bench jeweler with the right equipment to make sure the stones are secure and the prongs are tight and have not worn down. This is not as much of a risk with platinum as it is with gold, as they are mixed with alloys to strengthen the gold. Worn prong are not typically visible to the untrained eye, but cause loose and lost stones.

To care for your jewelry,
        please follow this guide:

  • Clean regularly: Clean your jewelry regularly using a soft cloth or toothbrush, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals and rough handling. Gemstones should not be exposed to any chemicals or soaps.

  • Store properly: Store jewelry separately to prevent scratches and tangles. Consider using a soft-lined jewelry box or a pouch.

  • Protect from damage: Remove jewelry before engaging in activities that may cause damage, such as sports or cleaning. Exposure to sand and/or chlorine at the beach or pool can also be quite damaging to jewelry.

  • Avoid exposing to extreme conditions: Avoid exposing jewelry to extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

  • Have it professionally cleaned and checked: Have your jewelry professionally cleaned and checked annually to ensure it is in good condition.

  • Handle with care: Handle jewelry with care, avoiding excessive pulling or bending, which can cause damage.

By following these tips, you can keep your jewelry looking beautiful for years to come.
